Tiina Treasure, LCSW
Hi! My name is Tiina Treasure (she/her – and yes that is my real name…) and I’m a Brooklyn based New York state licensed therapist with a masters degree in Social Work from NYU. Throughout my decade long career in New York City I have helped individuals seeking relief from mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and PTSD. I also commonly work with individuals with no prior diagnosis or formal illness that are navigating some unthinkable change or worsening stressor in their lives. As a therapist I help my clients gain greater insight into their symptoms, process emotions, and identify their needs to work towards making sustainable changes in their lives.
Regardless of the reason that brought you to treatment my process is creative and generative. Together we’ll question thoughts that no longer serve you and honor feelings that have been neglected. We’ll find new ways of looking at old patterns and embrace playful curiosity to carve a new path forward – because no one wants to stay in therapy forever.
Why Specialize in Therapy for Creatives?
Prior to working as a social worker I obtained my BFA in Film Production and worked in this industry for 10 years. During this time I experienced the instability of freelance work, the stress of having art and employment intermingled, and the near constant nagging feeling of being creatively unfulfilled.
A therapist does not need to have everything in common with a client to be effective, but it can be helpful to have a basic understanding of a client’s lifestyle and the barriers they face. In working with creatives I’m able to understand the journey they’re going through because it’s a place I’ve lived in.
Therapy for Creatives may include exploring the following topics:
- Reconnecting to Dormant Creativity
- Confronting Imposter Syndrome
- Helping Manage Depression and Stagnation
- Coping with Triggering Feedback and Rejection
- Identifying The Comparison Trap
Whether is a desire to be more tapped into your personal creativity, or navigating a professional creative world – I offer this specialization to individuals that would like to pay special attention to their creativity in the therapeutic practice.
